What’s the Difference Between a Bookkeeper and an Accountant?
At CFO Source, we’ve been helping business owners in Maryland with both bookkeeping and accounting services for years, but a lot of times we find that most business owners don’t know the differences between bookkeeping and accounting. Since we have a good deal of experience with both, we wanted to outline both fields today.
What is a Bookkeeper?
Bookkeepers are your pure numbers people. They keep track of all comings and goings, and ensure that everything is recorded in an efficient and organized manner. Bookkeepers aren’t required to receive any kinds of certifications. Although if you find one that is certified, it’s certainly a bonus.
What is an Accountant?
Accountants usually do some of the same things that bookkeepers do. But in general, accountants are more focused on big picture items and analyzing what your data means. One way to think of it, a bookkeeper keeps track of your numbers while accountants advise you on what those numbers mean.
Am I In Need of Bookkeeping or Accounting Services?
There’s no right way to answer this question, as every business has unique needs. Are you having issues keeping up with your business day-to-day? Or are you having problems with something bigger? If you’re not sure, you should consult with a professional financial advisor in Maryland.
